Singing Sundays

A series of vocal workshops with great leaders!

A series of vocal workshops with great leaders!

In the run up to our Diamond Jubilee Concert on November 29th in Hall One, Sage Gateshead, we arranged a series of vocal workshops for the benefit of existing members and to attract potential members. ‘You can sing too. Singing Sundays’ were held at St Mary’s Heritage Centre. St Mary’s Square, Gateshead from 10 till 3.

Always wanted to sing but never had the opportunity? Already sing but want to improve technique, build confidence and try something new?

Want to take part in our Jubilee performance of Karl Jenkins: The Armed Man and new commission from Will Todd in Hall One Sage Gateshead, Sat Nov 29th 2014?

Then book your place on the final vocal workshop.

The first workshop ‘Come and Sing Karl Jenkins ‘The Armed Man’, was on April 27th and was led by our Musical Director Mark Anyan. It was attended by 43 people including 6 non choir members. Quote:‘Thoroughly enjoyed the day and what a great place to sing’

Workshop 2 was on May 11th led by Will Todd, acclaimed composer and jazz pianist whom we have commissioned to write a new choral work for our celebratory concert. A great day was had by all 44 participants when we sang Will’s compositions: ‘The Lord is My shepherd’, ‘My Lord has come’, ‘Mass in blue’ with solos by Bethany, Will’s wife, and the beautiful anthem ‘The Call of Wisdom’ commissioned for the Diamond Jubilee service from St Pauls Cathedral in 2012. Quote: Wow, what a privilege to meet Will and to enjoy his beautiful music, why haven’t we sung his pieces before?’

Workshop 3 was on June 15th, ‘Get More From Your Voice’, was led by Miranda Wright, and included Gospel music with Mark Anyan.

Miranda teaches on the Sage Gateshead Young Musician Programme, teaches singing for the boy and girl choristers at Durham Cathedral and for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.

Mark is our Musical Director, also of the Quay Lasses, and is General Manager for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain. He works regularly as a workshop leader and adjudicator, and as a tenor, makes regular appearances with choral societies and vocal ensembles throughout the North of England.

Unfortunately, Workshop 4 had to be postponed, and a date will be announced shortly:
