Newcastle Choral Society

is offering four Choral Scholarships for the 2025/26 season
Open to aspiring professional singers aged between 18 and 25 wishing to develop their choral singing and musicianship skills.
We invite applications from Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass voices
About: Scholarships are for one year, commencing October 2025
Attend at least 80% of weekly rehearsals
Participate in all concerts and other Choir events, typically 3 or 4 events / year
Assist the Musical Director with warm-ups at rehearsals
Support, and contribute to, the activities of the Choir
Eligibility
Ability to read music and sight-read
Strong vocal technique and musicality
Commitment to regular attendance and participation
Benefits:
Occasional solo opportunities in performance, dependent on repertoire
An annual remuneration of £450 payable in three parts, at the end of each term, subject to consistent rehearsal attendance and concert participation
Free music hire for the year
Two complimentary tickets for each concert in the 2025/26 season
Note: Successful applicants will become scholars at NCS and not employees

Submit CV with a brief covering letter which includes what you hope to achieve by participating in the scholarship programme, and with contact details for two referees

Applicants will be notified as soon as possible whether they have been selected for audition.
Auditions will be held on the evening of Monday 13 October 2025 at St John’s, the rehearsal venue, at 18.30
Applicants will be asked to sing a prepared piece and undertake some sight-reading
The successful applicants will be notified by 17 October 2025
Rehearsal Details
Rehearsals: Monday evenings from 19.30 to 21.30
during term-time, approximately 40 rehearsals per year
