Britten ‘War Requiem’

Britten ‘War Requiem’

Roderick Williams Baritone

BRITTEN ‘WAR REQUIEM’

My subject is War and the pity of War. The Poetry is in the pity ……….. All a poet can do today is warn. These words by Wilfred Owen are at the head of the score of the War Requiem, and set the atmosphere for this intensely moving work, to be performed on the eve of the centenary of the Armistice which ended the First World War. Newcastle Choral Society (NCS) is delighted to be the guest choir of Cleveland Philharmonic Choir (CPC), along with Northern Spirit Singers for this performance in Sage One on Saturday 10th November 2018.

We join the Choristers of Durham Cathedral and St Peter’s Church Stockton, Cleveland Philharmonic Junior Choir, and the Mowbray Orchestra. The acclaimed soloists are baritone Roderick Williams, tenor Mark Padmore and soprano Rachel Nicholls. The Conductors will be John Forsyth MBE, Gary Matthewman, and Daniel Cook, Master of the Choristers, Durham Cathedral. The details of the concert can be viewed here

As a guest choir, we have a financial undertaking to CPC to sell a certain number of tickets. We would therefore ask that valued supporters of Newcastle Choral Society, and those who have come across our website and want to buy tickets for this concert, take note of the NCS coding system that has been agreed with Sage Gateshead. By using this code, all sales will be credited to NCS. When you go online http://www.sagegateshead.com/event/benjamin-britten-war-requiem/ to book tickets for this concert you will see this notice:

Newcastle Choral Society audience members should use the NCS price types when booking tickets online or in person at Sage Box Office so that the purchase is credited to the choir. Alternatively, if you do not use the Internet and prefer to visit the Box Office, staff there are trained to ask if you are an NCS audience member in order to capture the sale. Prices are £20 NCS Standard, £18 NCS Senior(60 and over) and £5 NCS 16 & under and are the same on each Level of Hall One.

We would love to see you at Sage Gateshead on 10 November for what promises to be a most memorable occasion.

As ever, we welcome new singers, especially for the start of the new season. What a great time to become a member of NCS with the opportunity to sing at Sage Gateshead with the excellent Cleveland Philharmonic Choir. There are a number of ‘added value’ items to being a member of NCS; a singing teacher in residence is one of them. Interested and happy to have a short audition?
