NEWCASTLE CHORAL SOCIETY CONCERTS:

We performed Will Todd's Mass in Blue, and were extremely fortunate to have the Will Todd Trio playing with us. Our fabulous soprano soloist was Lorna James. The second half of the concert featured seasonal music, and included Will Todd conducting us singing his composition 'My Lord Has Come'. The concert took place in the Banqueting Suite of Newcastle Civic Centre.

Images from our concert at Sage Gateshead to commemorate the choir's Diamond Jubilee. The choir was augmented with members from the Mid Northumberland Chorus, and we were also joined by the Tees Valley Youth Choir. The musicians were Orchestra North East, and we were lucky to have writer Michael Chaplin to compere the evening. The first half of the concert featured John Rutter's Winchester Te Deum, followed by 3 short pieces performed, fantastically, by the young singers. The session finished with the World Premiere of Will Todd's new piece: The Dream of the River, specially commissioned by us. Will was present at the concert and spoke to the audience about his music. MIchael Chaplin also talked about his book 'Tyne View - A Walk Around the Port of Tyne', which helped inspire Will with the themes for the music. We performed Karl Jenkins' fabulous The Armed Man in the second half. This was very well received by the audience. Images taken on the day were by photographer Peter Atkinson. The concert received a very good review in The Journal the following day: http://www.thejournal.co.uk/culture/music-nightlife-news/review-newcastle-choral-society-diamond-8201249
